Rabu Rabu (meaning lovey-dovey in Japanese) reimagines and subverts the conventions of Japanese dating simulation games, known for their focus on interactions with attractive young female characters. Instead, it presents a fictional scenario where the traditional trajectory of falling in love and winning over the protagonist is no longer an option. Drawing on Eva Illouz’s The End of Love: A Sociology of Negative Relations, which describes ‘unloving’ as a narrative without a clear structure, Rabu Rabu reflects on agency both within and beyond the screen. By intertwining digital and physical AFK (Away From Keyboard) worlds, the work examines life in a heteronormative society shaped by late capitalism and dissolves the boundaries between game and video.

Junichi is a scout, recruiting girls for work in hostess bars. He's been at the job for seven years, but he's too softhearted to be a real success. Nanami, who is a music teacher at a junior high school, wishes that something would happen to change the course of her ordinary life. Junichi and Nanami have a disastrous first meeting. By the fourth time they bump into each other, Nanami begins to see Junichi as the man who just might save her from a mediocre life. Although it goes against everything that her upbringing has taught her, Nanami decides to give him a chance.

This led to the creation of the album Sicilien, released in 2008. Given the album's success, Roberto Alagna and Yvan Cassar decided to adapt it into a stage show. This is a documentary about the people living in barracks in Reykjavik from the year 1940 till 1970. This is an important chapter in Reykjavik history and for the national as whole. The Icelandic community turned from the farm life to a urban city in a very short period of time and these barrack communities were an example about this tremendous growth in the city. Here we see the barracks put in a perspective as a historic event that depicts the various livelihood of people in the growing city. We follow people that actually lived in these barracks and hear what they have to say and experienced in these times.
